What is PRF, and how does it differ from PRP?
​
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is considered next-gen Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), and unlike PRP it does NOT require the addition of any chemicals - like heparin, calcium chloride, or others.
Because no anticoagulant is added, it takes advantage of the formation of the natural fibrin matrix which protects the platelets and growth factors and extends the regenerative activity from ~2 hours to ~2 weeks. 1
It has shown superior performance in wound healing research, and early research and clinical reports indicate superior performance in cosmetic outcomes. 2
Additionally, we exclusively use collection tubes rated for injectable processing and that do not contain silica, which has been shown to negatively impact tissue health and decrease outcomes. 3
Finally, we’re using horizontal centrifugation technology that consistently delivers 4-5x platelet concentrations, which is more than 2x typical PRF platelet concentrations. 4
Why does plasma tx help hair loss?
The exosomes and growth factors carried in platelets and extracted in the plasma increase angiogenesis improving circulation, stimulate collagen and elastin regeneration in the scalp, activate the stem cells found in the follicular bulge, lengthens the hair anagen (growth) phase and shortens the hair telogen (resting) phase. 5

What is the difference between plasma injections & microneedling?
​
PRF injections are subdermal and bathe the hair follicle root. PRF microneedling is intradermal, reaching the follicle bulge where stem cells reside.
​
For mild hair loss injections are frequently sufficient, for more pronounced hair loss injections + microneedling are recommended.
Should plasma tx be used alone?
While PRF can be very powerful as a stand-alone treatment, the initial body of research on combined therapies show that stacking treatment modalities (ex: adding minoxidil or LLLT) with plasma treatments results in even greater improvements. 7
If you prefer not to manage the combined hair loss treatment stack, you may consider referring your patient for Hair Loss Trichoscopic Dx & Plan rather than stand alone PRF Treatments.

What is the benefit of Trichoscopy? ​
​
A high-magnification exam of the scalp and hair allows for an accurate diagnosis of the cause of hair loss. In particular, it allows us to distinguish Androgenetic Alopecia (male or female pattern hair loss), from non-scarring alopecia (Alopecia Areata), and scarring alopecias (LPP, CCCA, etc).
​
On gross examination, the patterns of hair loss can look very similar and lead to misdiagnosis and mismanagement. For example, scarring alopecias can mimic androgenetic alopecia in the gross hair loss pattern but require very different management.
​
Why would I want to partner with RootRemedyRX to create a treatment stack for my patient?
Hair loss is a multifactorial challenge.

We know from early research and clinical outcomes that patients do better when treatments are appropriately stacked.
Through years of research and clinical experience we
have developed a treatment key that then allows us to translate the patient's 3-S Complexity and Scalp Type(s) into a precision-targeted stack of treatments that work synergistically with one another to improve hair growth.

The Scalp Type is determined through trichoscopy - it is very common for patients to have multiple types of hair loss simultaneously. The 3-S Complexity level is established through a proprietary algorithm that takes into account Status, State, and Stage: hair loss status, 15 health state factors, and endocrine-dictated life stage data.

What don't you offer?​

We do not manage JAK inhibitors for autoimmune forms of alopecia at this time.
​

What treatment modalities do you offer?​
​
We utilize both conventional and integrative approaches and create a treatment stack based on a combination of the patient's preferences, their Scalp Type and 3-S Complexity.
Their Scalp Type and 3-S Complexity will dictate the mechanisms required to support their scalp and hair. For each indicated mechanism we can then select from integrative and/or conventional options to align with their preferences.

Depending on the indicated mechanisms, and the patient's preferences, one patient may receive an entirely pharmaceutically-based treatment plan, whereas another may receive no pharmaceuticals.
